Screening Spanish Reading

The Screening Spanish Reading tests help to determine the student's reading ability in their native language. Together with other data, it can show whether a student needs reading instruction in their own language, in addition to English language instruction.

There are separate tests for each grade (K through 8) and term (fall, winter, spring) in case you want to test multiple times per year. However, you should not treat it as a growth test.

Each test has 30 questions:

  • Questions 1–5: Lower difficulty
  • Questions 6–30: Low and high difficulty, distributed in a randomized sequence

Score for Screening Spanish Reading

Test results show the percent correct, both overall and in 3 instructional areas. Use the Screening and Skills Checklist reports.

Example scenarios:

  • High score in Screening: Spanish Reading but struggling with English reading — Consider grade-level instruction with English language support.
  • Low in Screening: Spanish Reading — Consider more reading instruction in Spanish.
