Instructional Resources

MAP®Measures of Academic Progress® system users who can view MAP reports can also view the Instructional Resources landing page in MARCMAP® Administration and Reporting Center, the MAP system interface for users with assigned roles.

Required Roles

You must have at least one of the following MAP system roles to access instructional resources:

• Assessment coordinator
• Administrator
• Instructor

The Instructional Resources landing page displays the following sections:

Instructional Resources: Links to instructional resourcesLearning resources designed to help you translate the raw data from your students' assessments into actionable plans for instruction, grouping, and more. The two types of instructional resources supplied by the MAP system are DesCartes: A Continuum of Learning (DesCartes) and Primary Grades Instructional Data (PGID). you can order.

Information Center: Provides reference information related to instructional resources.

The MAP system provides access to two instructional resources that can help you plan instruction based on reporting of test data:

• DesCartes. DesCartes learning statements can help determine what a student has learned, is currently learning, and needs to learn.
• Primary Grades Instructional Data (PGID). PGID uses the results from Survey-with-Goals assessments administered to primary grade students. This resource helps teachers translate student test scores in emerging literacy and numeracy into instructional objectives to better guide instruction for individual student learning.

While DesCartes and Primary Grades Instructional Data have similar purposes and uses, they are generated using different methodologies.

• DesCartes is the result of research into every test item reviewed by NWEA curriculum specialists and refined by ongoing communication with partner districts. DesCartes learning statements are organized by goal structures within subjects. Goal structures are typically aligned to state standards if available, and grouped in 10-point RIT bands.
• PGID presents concepts and skills in emerging literacy and numeracy that are critical to young learners. Learning statements are developed for each item in the MAP for Primary Grades item pool, and are therefore associated with a specific RIT value. This allows for the presentation of Primary Grades Instructional Data covering specific RIT ranges, or even one RIT score if desired. For convenience, PGID is available in the familiar DesCartes format of 10-point RIT ranges, if desired.
