About Configuring the MAP System
The MAP system comes to you with your initial data set up and ready to access. See About Setting Up the MAP System Initially.
In the system, you can:
- Customize school, program, grade, and group names
- Set test window dates
- Modify student and user information
- Customize reports to help you assess educational needs for each student
- Track growth within each school and across your district.
Configuration choices affect:
- The custom names you specify appear on all reports and throughout the MAP system.
-
When importing roster and programs files, those names should match the custom names defined by your district.
Note: To avoid errors when importing data, make sure you communicate the custom names to all MAP Data Administrators in the district.
- All MAP reports include test events that fall within the test window dates that you set. Certain reports use test events within the test window to compare student growth data with norms data.
- Test events outside the test window are excluded from many reports and are not compared with norms data.
-
Setting appropriate test windows allows you to accurately monitor the growth of students over time and to take full advantage of MAP reports.
Note: Growth data is most easily compared across your district and with the NWEA norms data when your test windows are kept short and are placed at certain times of year. For guidelines, see Guidelines for Selecting Test Window Dates.
- Entities you add—such as schools and programs—are available to MAP users throughout your district. You can assign these entities to students or teachers, either individually or by importing roster or programs files that include these entities.
- Entities you inactivate are not available as options in the MAP system, and you cannot import files that include inactive entities.
Note: To maintain consistency across all data, MAP reports include all valid test events, even those related to inactive entities. For example, the District Summary Report includes test results for a school that tests students, even if the school is later inactivated for the term to limit selections in the MAP system. However, you cannot order a report for the school, because the school is not listed as a possible selection.
