About Instructional Terms and Test Windows

An instructional term is a period of time in which students are grouped in classes for instruction, and it is identified by the season and academic year. The MAP®Collapsed system defines the date range of an academic year as the sum of the date ranges of its four instructional terms.

A test window is a range of time within a term during which the district or school plans to administer MAP tests. Test events that occur outside the test window dates are excluded from many MAP reports.

Declaring testing complete closes the test window for the current term for the entire district. This action triggers calculation of district averages, enables summary reports, and excludes further test events from growth summary data.

Important! The duration and timing of test windows are crucial to achieving accurate growth measurements that can easily be compared throughout the district and to norms data. For guidelines, see Guidelines for Selecting Test Window Dates.

From the Manage Terms page, you can set test windows for a district.

From the Modify District page, you can set custom test windows for each school.
